I’ve been predicting Hillary Clinton would win the election for two years. I didn’t see how, because the attacks on her seem to be continual. However, when Donald Trump was nominated by the Republican Party, then I could see how it would happen.
Hillary did win the Presidential Election. However, she didn’t get enough votes in the Electoral College, a mechanism created by the Founding Fathers to protect the leaders of the country from the will of the majority. It certainly worked in 2016 didn’t it?
In addition, I think something went wrong with the election. Either voter suppression in the Rust Belt kept Democrats from voting or somebody hacked the votes in those states. I think the polls were right.
So, I’m bummed. Consumers do poorly under Republican administrations. Remember George W. Bush? Regulations were cut and corporations went wild. The result? The Great Recession.
Since Republicans love smaller government, they cut social services. That means more homelessness.
Trump is now saying he’ll cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. He also may set a national minimum wage, taking away the right of states to determine their own. That means millions of people won’t have money to spend. The result? A recession.
So far, I’ve written two articles about the election: “Trump: Tighten Your Belt, a Recession Is Coming” and “Trump: Why His Election Is a Personal Affront to Me.” I may write more, so stay tuned.
Three of our other bloggers have thoughts about the election:
Over at Heart•Soul•Mind, Carol Cassara is urging baby boomers to renew their acquaintance with activism. A Facebook group, Pantsuit Nation, now has more than 3.3 million members.
