For girls, princess costumes are the No. 1 seller this year, followed by the ever-popular Halloween witch.

For boys, Spider-Man is the hottest disguise, followed by pirate costumes.

Here’s the list of the top 10 costumes for kids for 2010:

1. Princess
2. Witch
3. Spider-Man
4. Pirate
5. Pumpkin
6. Vampire
7. Princess Tiana (The Princess and the Frog)
8. Star Wars
9. Tinker Bell
10. Batman

For adults, these are the top 10 picks:

1. Witch
2. Vampire
3. Pirate
4. Nurse
5. Wench/Tart/Vixen
5. Disney Princess
6. Cat
7. Zombie
7. Ghost
8. Fairy
9. Athlete/Batman (Tie)
10. Dracula

Americans are expected to spend a little more on costumes and Halloween treats this year – a total of about $5.8 billion nationwide, reports the National Retail Federation.

On average, most households in the U.S. are expected to spend just over $66 this Halloween. That’s $10 more than 2009.
