What’s happening on Labor Day 2011?
Recall of the Week: King International Shoulderflex massager due to strangulation hazard

What was your best and worst consumer experience this week?

By Rita R. Robison, Consumer Specialist

Which consumer happenings cheered you this week and which ones made you want to scream or weep?

Here are my best and worst consumer experiences this week:

My best: Getting a dentist bill paid

Rita Teeth

Recently, I had a filing done. The dentist office sent me a notice saying the insurance company had rejected the billing. They said I owed $145.

I called to see what the problem was. I asked the dentist office to provide more information to the insurance company with a resubmitted bill.

It worked. I’m pleased not to have to pay the $145.

My worst: Trying to pick out a painter to paint my fence and eves

Fence

My cedar fence needs painting. It’s huge. It goes around three sides of my property.

The contractor I was hoping would do the work hasn’t gotten back to me with an estimate. He wasted two weeks of wonderful sunshine.

I also asked for three other estimates from painters. It looks like I’ll have to pick one of those.

Another project, painting the eves of my house, also is looming. After I had a new standing seam roof installed, some of the eves need a second coat of paint and nail holes in the eves also need to be covered. I have three estimates for that job, too.

It’s challenging to find competent workers for projects in and around the home. I’ll narrow the list and ask for references to call.

$145 is quite a big cut on your expenses. My son recently had a filling too. His tooth had quite a deep hole. Yeah, he's into everything that has sugar. So now, I closely monitor everything he eats, so as to avoid other complications due to his eating habits.
