Make your voice heard on update to Dietary Guidelines

Vegetables IMG_2409You have one more day to comment on the latest updates to the nation’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Nutrition professor Marion Nestle recommends reviewing the comments on the guidelines from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Sustainable Livestock Farmers.

See Nestle’s article, “Dietary Guidelines Shouldn’t Be This Controversial,” for more information.

She says the basic advice offered by 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee boils down to plain common sense:

  • Eat plenty of foods from plant sources.
  • Eat foods from animal sources in moderation.
  • Balance calories.
  • Avoid overeating junk food.

Nestle urges consumers to offer comments:

Yours don’t have to be lengthy, formal, or cover everything. You just need to identify the issue, state your opinion, and indicate what you want the guidelines to do or say. Your opinion counts. Do it now.
