Baby boomer bloggers focus on finances, life, and beauty

Feature-refundI’m the host for this week’s Best of Boomer Blogs #419.

Since I’m a consumer journalist, one thing I’m looking for is stories for my blog about finances.

One that came up last week was discouraging, especially for some baby boomers.

Thirty million Americans took money out of their retirement savings for an emergency during the past year, according to a study. And, another 21 million Americans didn’t save anything for retirement.

For 50-64 year-olds, most of those boomers, 17 percent recently used retirement savings to pay for an emergency. Only 8 percent of Millennials withdraw retirement funds early.

Meryl Baer of Six Decades and Counting is looking at a familiar challenge to her bank account, but one she hasn’t seen for a while. Among this week's snail mail at her home was a colorful brochure listing a variety of magazines she is supposed to be eager to purchase. The stuffed envelope originated from her granddaughter's elementary school, ushering in a new Era of Solicitations.

Tom Sightings at Sightings Over Sixty reminisces about the 1990s, which as he realizes in “A Man of the 1990s,” were only just around the corner, as far as the past goes. As a man of the 1990s, Sightings says he’s tuned into the music and movies of the era, and the politicians, too.

On the Adventures of the New Old Farts, Laura Lee Carter writes how about the Colorado high country is gorgeous in the fall. Go learn more about the small mountain town of Cripple Creek and see the Aspen in their golden glory.

Thanks for taking a look at our boomer blogger offerings this week. Be sure to tune in again next week.
