Watch out for fake Yahoo customer service scam

If you’re like me, you’ve received dozens of calls from people saying your computer needs technical assistance. I hope that after all my articles and other information on this, you just say no.

The latest computer scam is for Yahoo customer care. There are a few ways to get it — but, Yahoo warns that the phone isn’t one of them. Any phone number you find in an Internet search, saying it will connect you with Yahoo customer care, is fake.

The Federal Trade Commission has received reports that consumers who called these fake customer care numbers were offered “Yahoo customer care services” for a fee, said Andrew Johnson, consumer education specialist for the FTC.

However, Yahoo customer support is free. That means you should never pay to have your Yahoo password reset, for technical support, or for help with security questions. In addition, Yahoo won’t ask to remotely connect to your computer for any support-related request.
