How to make lamb stew

Lamb ShanksA couple of months ago, I decided to get out my crock pot and use it for quick meals. After making beef stew several times, I got tired of the same taste. I began to look for recipes that would taste different.

I tried spareribs, which were good. However, it was sweet, even though the sauce was made with agave nectar. Agave nectar, used in some natural foods, is still very sweet. Since I’m cutting out sugar in my diet, it isn’t a meal that I could eat regularly.

Then, I tried lamb stew. It terrific. Here’s my recipe:

Lamb Stew

1 pound of lamb stew meat

1 medium sweet potato

2 turnips

3 carrots

3 celery stalks

½ cup sour cherries, dried

2 cloves of garlic

3 to 4 cups of chicken broth

¼ teaspoon salt

Peel the sweet potato, turnips, carrots, and garlic cloves. Dice the celery stalks. Place the vegetables, sour cherries, and salt in a crock pot. Add the lamb stew meat. Pour the chicken broth on top of the other ingredients. Cook on the high setting in the crock pot for four to six hours, until the stew and vegetables are tender. Makes six to eight servings.

Note: You can use other vegetables, too, white potatoes or broccoli, for example, if you don't like turnips.

Try it. You’ll be surprised by the unique flavor.
