It’s summertime: Remember your backyard manners
July 26, 2017
It’s incredible the things you hear in your backyard when you’re out working in your yard during the summer months. People seem to forget that they have neighbors who can hear everything over the fence.
Here’s a sampling of what I’ve heard:
- A complaint that the doctor wouldn’t give the person much pain medication anymore.
- A comment that the marijuana being smoked was too strong – cough, cough. (Not to worry. Marijuana is legal where I live in Washington state.)
- Poor parenting, with the person yelling unnecessarily at a child.
- Loud music weekly when friends are invited over.
Then there are the pets. It’s so irritating when you go out into your yard to weed or water your lawn and garden and the neighbor’s dog barks and barks loudly. Fortunately, that person moved, taking the uncontrolled dog with him.
However, Tuesday I went out to pull weeds by my fence. The dog on the other side of the fence didn’t bark, but it ran over to the fence right away and whined and whined, scratching the fence – my fence.
So, if you live in the suburbs like me, remember your neighbors can hear everything you’re saying if they’re in their yard when you are.
