Taco Bell salsa cheese dip recalled due to botulism risk
July 29, 2018
About 7,000 cases of Taco Bell Salsa Con Queso Mild Cheese Dip are being recalled by the Kraft Heinz Foods Co. because the salsa is showing signs of separation which can lead to possible health hazards.
Under these conditions, Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause life-threatening illness or death, could grow. Consumers shouldn’t use the salsa cheese dip even if it doesn’t look or smell spoiled.
Botulism can cause the following symptoms: general weakness, dizziness, double vision, and trouble with speaking or swallowing. Difficulty in breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal swelling, and constipation may also be common symptoms. People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention.
There have been no consumer complaints or reports of illness from the salsa cheese dip, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.
