Returning holiday gifts? Use these tips
December 24, 2021
About a third of American consumers will be returning holiday gifts this year.
Hopefully, you kept your receipts and are able to take care of your returns right away.
The Better Business Bureau offers these tips for your holiday returns:
Return policy. Check the seller’s website or the back of the receipt to find out the return policy. Call the store if you have questions about your return.
The receipt. Take it with you when you return the item. Find out if the store will process the return without the receipt if you don’t have it or if you can get a store credit.
Original packaging and restocking fees. Call the store or look on the website for details. You also can often ask questions through email or live chats.
Identification. For a gift you purchased, bring the credit card used in the transaction if you don’t have the receipt.
Warranty. For an item that’s defective or damaged, you may need to mail it to the manufacturer to get a refund, credit, or replacement.
Timing. Stores often have a deadline for returning items. Don’t miss your opportunity to return gifts by waiting too long.
I hope your holiday season is merry and bright, and your gift exchanges go well, too.
