Happy April Fools’ Day
What to buy and not buy in April

Bloggers ponder the slap, pundits, spring, and more

Oscar Poster Flat 94O_Teaser-ArtIt’s time to take look at what my blogger friends are up to as April showers are bringing May flowers.

TV news

In “Am I Just an Old Fogey?,” Tom Sightings of Sightings Over Sixty wonders whether it’s O.K. for Jen Psaki, President Biden’s press secretary, to leave her job and work for MSNBC as a program host on Peacock and an analyst. Sightings says that usually his blog focuses on retirement and living well as people age. But sometimes, just sometimes, things bug him and he has to say something. Find out his thoughts on Psaki’s possible move, and see if you agree.

The slap

In the same article, Sightings gives his opinion on “the slap,” Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony last week after Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife.

Another blogger, Rebecca Olkowski of BabyBoomster.com is in the entertainment industry and watches the Academy Awards every year. However, this year was different, and she has a few things to say about it in “The Academy Awards 2022 – WTF?”

I, too, usually don’t write about the Academy Awards show although I do analyze the nominated movies. See my opinion about the slap in my article “The 2022 Oscars Show: Some Questionable Moments Aside from the Slap.”

Here are other topics our bloggers are writing about:

Things happen in threes – not good things – Meryl Baer’s mom always said. Baer’s now living that maxim, as she explains in this week’s post “A Trio of Trouble” on her blog Beach Boomer Bulletin.

Recently, Laurie Stone of Laurie Stone Writes heard two young mothers musing about what their children might be when they grew up. Stone had pondered the same about her two boys, Patrick and Paul, when they were little. Would they become doctors? Artists? Astronauts? But, looking back, she sees the hints were there all along.

Self-care is often seen as a gift or something that you have to “earn” first. Jennifer Koshak, of Unfold and Begin, says that’s a lie that we either tell ourselves or let other people tell us. Self-care is a necessity that creates a healthy environment for the mind, body, and spirit. Something all of us need. Read about different types of self-care in “How Can We Be Creative with Self-Care?”

Diane Trolly of On the Border is waiting, more or less patiently, for spring. Check out her poem “Waiting … ” to see what she’s looking forward to the most.

Spring is such a hopeful season, Carol Cassara points out on her blog Carol A. Cassara Writer. To celebrate that rebirth, Cassara’s making beautiful candles, adorned with flowers she grows herself and stuffed with powerful stones and semiprecious gems. This season, she’s got some special candles on offer that make gorgeous, unique gifts – read all about them in “Celebrate the Coming of Spring with Our Spring Candles.”
