Appreciating my friends on National Friendship Day

Group at Nora Burke's 2001

Today, the first Sunday of August, is National Friendship Day.

I’m very thankful for my friends and the support and joy they bring in my life. In addition, recent research shows that having friends and being connected improves your health and longevity.

Some of your relatives may be pleasant and supportive. However, they may live far away. Other relatives may not like you no matter what you do.

So, celebrate the importance of loving, platonic relationships on National Friendship Day. For more than a century, the day has been used to celebrated the strength of friendship. And now, due to social media, we can celebrate with our friends no matter where they are in the world.
