More than half a million Black+Decker garment steamers are being recalled after consumers are burned
November 07, 2022
Big product recalls from last week included an exploding aerosol air freshener for linens, an exercise bicycle with loose pedals, canvas shoes with toxic chemicals, and a garment cleaner that can cause burns.
I’m sharing details about the largest one, the garment steamer that has burned 32 people, two of which were second-degree burns.
Empower Brands has received 241 reports of hot water spouting from the Black+Decker Model HGS011 Easy Garment Steamer. About 518,500 are being recalled.
The steamers have date codes 102ZJ through 210ZJ on the plug blades, and they were sold in a variety of colors. The name Black+Decker is located at the base of the steamer.
Only steamers without a green dot on the bottom of the package or a notched triangle on the underside of its upper assembly are included in this recall.

From June 2021 through September 202, the steamers were sold at Walmart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and other stores nationwide, including online at Walmart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Black and Decker Appliances. The cost was between $16 and $23.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Black+Decler Model HGS011 Easy Garment Steamer and contact Empower Brands to receive a free replacement upper assembly for their steamer, the company and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advise.
