Bose recalls more than 1 million bass modules due to fire risk

Bose-home-moduleAnother huge recall deserves your attention.

Bose is recalling about 884,000 bass modules in the United States, 98,000 in Canada, and 18,300 in Mexico.

The company has received 21 reports worldwide of the bass modules igniting or melting, including three fires resulting in damage to carpeting, an entertainment cabinet, and materials surrounding the bass box. No injuries have been reported.

This recall involves certain bass modules manufactured before April 1, 2006, that were sold with some Acoustimass, Lifestyle, and Companion home theater systems.

The components are black or white. The Bose logo, product name, serial number, and date code are printed on the product label.

The bass modules were sold at Bose stores, Best Buy, Circuit City, Sam’s Club, Sears, other electronics stores nationwide, and online at Bose.com from January 1994 through April 2007. The cost was between $220 and $2,200.

Consumers should immediately stop using and unplug the recalled bass modules and contact Bose to arrange for a free repair or a 40 percent discount on a replacement product, the company and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advise.
