Ninety-seven percent of Americans are planning to celebrate Thanksgiving. The average person’s spending over the five-day Thanksgiving period is estimated to be $325. The average cost of a 10-person Thanksgiving dinner will be about $64.05. Most will be eating at home or at a friend or relative’s home, with 13 percent planning to get takeout from a restaurant or go out to eat for Thanksgiving.

As for what’s on the menu, WalletHub.com, a personal finance website, says Americans’ favorite Thanksgiving dishes are: turkey, 83 percent; mashed potatoes, 78 percent; stuffing or dressing, 77 percent; bred or rolls, 74 percent; sweet potatoes or yams, 65 percent; and cranberry sauce, 52 percent.

The average cost of a 16-pound frozen turkey is $28.82.

Sixty-three percent of Americans will travel this Thanksgiving holiday with 72 percent driving to their destinations.

But be careful when you travel by car as an estimated 518 people will die in traffic accidents during a Thanksgiving weekend.
