Wishing a happy New Year to us all

It’s a typical refrain this time of year, “Happy New Year.”

Usually people look back on the year left behind as we move into a new year. In recent years, I’ve been writing articles on the top 10 consumer and personal finance issues of the year that’s ending. Here’s the link to my article for 2023.

Although 2023 had many highlights, such as the economy recovering without, apparently, sliding into a recession and pay increases for many workers, the problem of a stalled Congress continued. I don’t call it divided government; it’s obstruction from far right that’s keeping the body from moving forward on so many issues.

With 2024, we’ll have the election of the U.S. president. That election will be so important for consumers, being able to keep our governmental institutions in place to continue their work in consumer protection. In addition, it will be vital for democracy in America.

Yes, happy New Year. And best wishes and good luck to us all in 2024.
