What to buy and not buy during March 2024
March 06, 2024
March isn’t one of the hottest months for finding deals, but you may be able to score great savings on several items in March as long as you know what to shop for.
DealNews.com offers the following suggestions:
Pi Day
March 14 is Pi Day because it’s 3-14 and it celebrates the mathematical constant pi, 3.14159. Look for restaurants that offer deals for $3.14, as well as discounts and free items with themed coupon codes. Pizza promotions are often offered, and if there’s a pie restaurant in your area, you may see them offering specials, too.
Saint Patrick’s Day
Some retailers have Saint Patrick’s Day sales to encourage shoppers because it’s not a big month for sales. Look for deals on donuts, furniture, clothing, decorations, groceries, and Saint Patrick’s Day outfits.
Travel gear
March is a good time to shop for deals on various kinds of gear for your next trip including luggage.
Winter sports items
Since winter winds down in March, it’s a great time to shop for cold-weather-sports items. Check out REI, Marmot, and Steep & Cheap.
Winter clothing
Cold-weather apparel will also be discounted as retailers make room for new spring items. If you need a new coat, March may be the best time to pick one out.
Vacuum cleaners
With many people getting ready for spring cleaning, it could be a good month to pick up a new vacuum. Check prices at eBay, Home Depot, and Hoover.
TVs
While Black Friday still offers the best TV deals for the most part, that doesn’t mean the rest of the year is devoid of them. There likely won’t be a lot of TV discounts in March, but there could be some. Compare prices.
Grills
In general, the lowest prices on grills come along much later in the year, such as the end of the summer with the best savings usually appearing during September and October, when the demand for grills decreases sharply. But, if you need a grill before the backyard barbecue season starts, compare prices to see what you can find.
Garden tools
Garden tools often don’t see strong deals in until April, when lawn care and gardening really kick off for the year. Still, there’s a chance for rock-bottom prices on some tools including power tools.
Cleaning supplies
Look for sales on sponges, window cleaners, and toilet cleaners plus cleaning tools and accessories. Keep an eye out for deals on packages of trash bags, microfiber cleaning cloths, and broom and dustpan sets.
Furniture
While Presidents’ Day sales in February are big for furniture deals, it’s likely there will be a variety of offers in March as well. Do research and see what you can find.
Cruises
Since March is the end of Wave Season, it’s one of the last chances of the year to find great discounts. Be sure to check your favorite cruise lines directly, but also look for sales from online travel agencies and cruise-booking agencies as well.
Hot tubs
Since hot tubs aren’t usually at the top of people’s shopping lists during the winter months, retailers will offer higher discounts to entice them. And since March is the official end of winter, stores will often use it as another opportunity to keep their inventory moving.
What not to buy in March
May is a better time to buy major appliances and mattresses.
For android phones, it’s July or November.
April and June are better months to buy spring clothing because it’s just hitting the shelves in March, so any discounts in March on these items will be modest at best.
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day and the wearin’ of the green.
Lots of good discounts, it seems. Thanks for the reminder!
