Memories of childhood and other stories from older adults
May 05, 2024
My birthday is May 4, a wonderful time in the spring when everything is blooming.
When I was a child growing up in Central Washington on an apple ranch, I used to run through the orchard on my birthday when the trees were in full bloom, an enchanted place. The blossoms were spectacular and the fragrance marvelous.
I used to feel special, like the apple blossoms bloomed for me on my birthday.
As I’m enjoying spring, my favorite time of year, my blogging friends are busy writing about an interesting variety of topics:
Beth Havey
Childhood memories have meant a great deal to Beth Havey after losing her father when she was only 3. On her blog Reading … Writing That’s What I Do, Harvey looks at how her childhood may have shaped her in her article “Memories … Do We Really Even Leave the Nest?”
Laurie Stone
Ever have a doctor’s visit take a more mystical turn than expected? Laurie Stone of Laurie Stone Writes recently had an irksome, red rash on her eyelids that wouldn’t go away. She expected the dermatologist to give her some cream and call it a day. What she didn’t expect was his observations about her very being.
Meryl Baer
Meryl Baer of Musings of a Shore Life spent a day with her family at a child’s worldly paradise, an amusement park – Chocolate World and Hershey Park. The experience made her realize how different her everyday life is from the younger generations, and why. She writes about the changes in this week’s post.
Rebecca Olkowski
Anti-aging skincare. Ads for it are everywhere. But isn’t age something to be embraced and celebrated? For women, it often isn’t. Rebecca Olkowski of BabyBoomster.com asks if the anti-aging skincare industry is a hoax in her latest post.
Carol Cassara
No cicadas at Carol Cassara’s home this season, but her pal, Jiminy Cricket, and HIS pals, used her place as a rest top during late winter. She talks about those visits on her blog Carol A. Cassara Writes.

Happy belated birthday, Rita. I'm sure there are worst things than celebrating in Madrid!
