What to buy and not buy during July 2024

Fourth-of-july-2460544_640As with most holidays, you’ll find worthwhile deals around July Fourth. Sales have already begun, so start comparing prices. As always, you’ll avoid “marked way up and marked way down” if you check out prices.

July Fourth sales usually continue until about a week after the holiday.

Here are some items that are likely to be marked down:

Furniture and appliances

Mattresses, furniture, and large household appliances typically go on sale around long weekends, so you’re sure to see lots of options during July Fourth sales.

Outdoor gear

Clothing and gear for camping, cycling, fishing, hiking, and climbing will be discounted. Lanterns, camping stoves, and tents also are expected to be on sale.

Clothing

You’ll find summer clothing for sale with up to 70 percent off. Look for bathing suits to have sharp reductions. Shoes such as sandals and flip flops are likely to be 20 to 40 percent off.

Bedding and linens

In addition to January white sales, July is a good time to buy bedding and linens as students are stocking up before heading to college.

Back to school sales

Different parts of the country head back to school at different times but some areas start these sales in July.

TVs

While the deals won’t be as low as around Black Friday, it’s worth checking out prices especially if you have a student heading to college who wants a TV.

Tools and home improvement items

With warm weather comes the DIY urge, so you’re likely to see some serious deals on these items.

Amazon Prime Day

Amazon Prime Day 2024 will be July 16 and 17 this year. Although there is some overlap in the sales, July Fourth sales often offer items for summer lifestyles and needs, while Prime Day has a variety of items that don’t have a seasonal theme.

What not to buy in July

Wait until August or September to buy patio furniture and grills. For lawn mowers, August and October are better sale months. For sunglasses, try September.

Wait until October or November to buy fall clothing. For electronics, it’s November. Think Black Friday deals.

Happy Fourth of July and be sure to enjoy your red-white-and-blue decorations or buy some.

I love these posts. I shared this one on X.

Thanks, Carol. It's good to look for sale prices around these holiday sales for items such as appliances and mattresses. Saving money these days is even more important with high housing and grocery costs and other increased expenses.
