AAA joins the companies providing low customer service

Car reparing Looking Under the Hood on Roadside-791413_640On Saturday, I got in my car hoping to rush to Ace Hardware to buy a new garden hose. I also wanted to show them the one I bought a couple of years ago. It’s a light weight hose and it split.

It wasn’t like it sprung a leak like a regular hose. A sheet of water poured out from about two feet of the hose near the end.

It was surprising. Regular hoses often last for decades.

When I turned on the ignition, the car made that clicking sound like when the battery is dead. Sure enough, I left one of the interior lights on. Since my battery is seven years old, it was too much for it to handle.

I’ve been an AAA member for decades. I’ve run down the battery and locked my keys in the car probably more than a dozen times.

My car was in my driveway. So I called AAA for road service like I have many times.

I expected a person with a service truck to come. Instead, a young guy rolled up in his car with the radio blaring. He got out and left his car running and the radio on.

I asked him why he didn’t turn off the radio and engine. He said he wouldn’t be there very long.

However, I said I needed a new battery. The last time an AAA person came out, he said I probably needed a new one. I asked where the AAA person with the service truck was. He replied there wasn’t one.

He jumped my car and left. He didn’t even ask to see my AAA card. Instead of getting a person with a service truck, I got a guy in his own car, with a magnetic sign on the door, and a jumper cable. AAA service on the cheap.

Now I need to figure how to get a new battery. I thought I’d go to Costco and have them install one. But, I looked online and Costco sells batteries, but doesn’t install them.

Walmart does install batteries. It’s a $10 charge if you don’t buy it from them.

Another consumer problem: figuring out how to buy a battery.

I wonder what would've happened if you needed a tow to whomever works on your car? The guy would've pulled out a rope & tied your vehicle's bumper & then tied to his own? Pulled out a little red flag to attach to the trunk of your car?

Did you try calling AAA to let them know the service you'd received was wholly inadequate?

Rita

They knew I was at home in my driveway so I think that's why they dispatched the kid with the jumper cable.

Good idea to call AAA and let them know what happened. I'm still upset because I have to figure out where to get a new battery.
