How is your garden doing?
September 04, 2024
It’s fun to grow organic vegetables. My mom usually had a huge garden when we lived on apple ranches. The fresh corn and strawberries were amazing.
My dad took over the gardening when they retired. The garden was smaller behind their home in the city. The zucchinis were amazing. My dad made a joke once about being able to stack zucchinis like you’d stack except wood for the wood stove.
My garden is preforming well again this year except my raspberries didn’t do as well as they often do. I bought one raspberry plant years ago at the co-op and it spread into a raspberry patch. I often get 20 pints of raspberries to freeze.
The kale and Swiss chard are doing well as usual.
I only had about three servings of green beans. Sometimes I get more.
The patio container garden produces vegetables, too.
I only got a couple of zucchinis this year.
The carrots are ready now.
I planted more lettuce.
I bought two tomato plants late in the season because they each had a ripe tomato.
I doubt they’ll have any more tomatoes. I don’t see any blossoms.
The blueberries did very well. I got a dozen bowls full. I even froze some for the first time this year.
When my daughter Mona came in July and made tabolui, I’m making it, too. When I bought mint in a small plastic container, half of it was black. I planted some mint, along with parsley, for making tabolui. Look how well it’s doing.
The cucumbers are in full production. I need my grandkids to come and eat some. They were here in July and the cucumbers weren’t ready yet. They eat them every day.
And I grew these two unusual cucumbers.
Rachel is helping me remove the moss from the lawn.
… and plant lawn in the bare spots.
The slugs like the beer.
This wascally wabbit doesn’t seem to have wreaked much havoc this year.
I saw him when I want on a walk and haven’t seen him in my yard as much this year.
I hope your garden did well this year. If you don’t have one, work on one for next year. Even pots on a patio can grow lots of organic vegetables. You can buy a bag of compost, make slits in it, and put seedlings in that you’ve purchased.
Looks so rewarding to grow your own vegetables. I've thought about it, but don't have much of a green thumb. Maybe someday.

I'm sure busy now eating all that produce. I'm having to give away cucumbers because there are more than I can eat. However, I've only had a couple of zucchinis.

I had a vegetable garden for years, but gave up a couple of years ago when the rabbits and squirrels became too much - they ate everything! Your garden looks fabulous - and delicious.

Yes, I'm spending a lot of time now cooking the produce, which will be gone soon. The carrots last a long time. I like them with hummus.
