The challenges on Presidents’ Day 2025 are great

IMG_0211The news today is that the Trump administration has begun firing hundreds of Federal Aviation Administration employees. Add these to thousands of other federal employees also fired. The firings are being done without any regard to how programs are carried out – it’s just to make the size of the federal government smaller.

Some years on Presidents’ Day, I’ve written about participating in government and politics to help make the country work as well as possible.

I guess I need to repeat that message, only today it’s urgent as the Far Right is in the process of taking over the government of the United States of America.

I’ll quote what some guiding lights over the past few weeks are saying today:

Robert Reich

  • Our nation’s federal employees are more than just numbers on a spreadsheet.
  • They make sure we have clean water.
  • They protect us from financial fraud.
  • They provide healthcare to our communities.
  • They make our government actually work for people.
  • Do not forget this.

Bernie Sanders

  • The Founding Fathers of this country created the longest standing democracy on earth and millions of Americans fought and died to preserve it.
  • Trump is betraying their vision and moving us to authoritarianism.
  • Stand tall. Defend democracy. We will win.

As Thomas Jefferson said, “We do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.”

Let’s keep fighting for our freedom. It’s shocking that in 2025 we’re having to do this.

God bless us all.
