Should pizza toppings go on top of the cheese or under it?

Cheese goes under the toppings when you’re making a pizza so the toppings will cook better.
Since I switched to a vegan diet a couple of years ago, I’ve been making a lot of pizzas with an organic, whole wheat crust I order from Plantstrong. It’s whole pizza crust doesn’t contain any oil, which is what I like about the Plantstrong products.
For the pizza in the photo, I didn’t have any green peppers, one of the main things I put on a pizza along with mushrooms, so I looked through my cupboards to see what I might have. Artichokes were a find along with pineapple. (I once wrote an article on whether you should cook pork and pineapple together. It’s one of the most read articles on my blog.)
When I looked up the order of pizza ingredients, dates also were mentioned, so I added some of those.
Actually, it’s quite a tasty pizza. See photo above.
Here’s the preferred order of pizza ingredients:
- Sauce
- Cheese
- Toppings
Since I’m a vegan, I use vegan cheese or low-fat cheese. I was putting the vegan cheese on the top because I had trouble finding vegan cheeses that melted.
I’d highly recommend ordering the wholewheat Plantstrong pizza kits and making your own pizzas often.
More and more research is showing the value of getting enough fiber in your diet. Not eating a fiber-rich diet in childhood may be the cause of the increase of colorectal cancer in young people, according to an article in The New York Times.
