What to buy and not buy in July 2025
June 18, 2025
Ads are beginning already for July Fourth sales, so it’s a good idea to start comparing prices.
In addition to sales at your favorite retailer, in store or on-line, you can check out prices at Amazon Prime Day, July 8 to 11. Look-alikes Target, Walmart, and lately Walgreens also are offering July sales to try to snatch some of the sale attention away from Amazon.
July Fourth sales are beginning and usually continue until about a week after the holiday.
Here are some items that are likely to be marked down in July, according to DealNews:
Furniture and appliances
Mattresses, furniture, and large household appliances typically go on sale around long weekends, so you’re sure to see lots of options during July Fourth sales.
Outdoor gear
Clothing and gear for camping, cycling, fishing, hiking, and climbing will be discounted. Lanterns, camping stoves, and tents also are expected to be on sale.
Clothing
You’ll find summer clothing for sale with up to 70 percent off. Look for bathing suits to have sharp reductions.
Bedding and linens
In addition to January white sales, July is a good time to buy bedding and linens as students are stocking up before heading to college.
Back to school sales
Different parts of the country head back to school at different times but some areas start these sales in July.
TVs
While the deals won’t be as low as around Black Friday, it’s worth checking out prices especially if you have a student heading to college who wants a TV.
Tools and home improvement items
With warm weather comes the DIY urge, so you’re likely to see some serious deals on these items.
Amazon Prime Day
Amazon Prime Day 2025 will be July 8 to 11. Although there is some overlap in the sales, July Fourth sales often offer items for summer lifestyles and needs, while Prime Day has a variety of items that don’t have a seasonal theme. You’ll find electronics, kitchen, beauty, school tech and supplies, dorm essentials, apparel, and much more.
Amazon also offers July 4th sales for non-Prime members. Look for deals on tech, home goods, kitchen appliances, fashion, beauty, and outdoor equipment.
Prime Day competition
Target Circle Week is July 13 to 19. Look for deals on Apple, Google, and Samsung gear, apparel for the whole family, grocery items, summer items, back-to-school supplies, and more.
Walmart+ Week is July 8 to 11, and it offers major summer savings across all departments. Like Prime Day, it’s a sale for members of Walmart+.
Walgreens announced recently it will join the summer sale frenzy with discounts starting on June 1 in nearly every category for the majority of the summer. Some examples include sun care products, sunglasses, snacks and beverages, summer and swim toys, BBQ and cookout party essentials, wellness and hydration, summer gathering essentials, and more.
What not to buy in July
Wait until August or September to buy patio furniture and grills. For lawn mowers, August and October are better sale months. For sunglasses, try September.
Wait until October or November to buy fall clothing. For electronics, it’s November. Think Black Friday deals.
Happy Fourth of July and be sure to enjoy your red-white-and-blue decorations or buy some.
