Another huge recall deserves your attention. About 919,400 power adapters sold with Rest 1st Generation sound machines are being recalled in the U.S. by Hatch Baby, with 44,352 sold in Canada. More than a half million JoyJolt glass coffee mugs are being recalled due to burn and cut risks

Another huge recall deserves your attention. MM Products is recalling about 580,000 JoyJolt brand glass coffee mugs. The glass mugs, which are clear with a handle, can break and crack when filled with hot liquids, posing burn and laceration hazards. Good Earth Lighting is recalling more than 1.2 million rechargeable integrated lights in the United States and about 37,800 in Canada. More than 1.5 million adult bed rails are being recalled following two deaths

Two models of adult portable bed rails are being recalled because they pose a risk of entrapment and asphyxia since users can become entrapped within the rail, or between the rail and mattress. GE appliance maker sued over failure to share gas stove pollution risks

Worried about emissions from your gas stove or one a family member or friend owns? The debate is heating up. A lawsuit filed against the maker of GE Appliances in the District of Columbia Superior Court alleges that the company is violating consumer protection laws by failing to warn district consumers that gas stoves produce air pollution that can be harmful to human health.  Read more →


More than 200,000 Frigidaire and Kenmore ranges are being recalled, again, due fire and burn risks

Kitchen ranges that were manufactured between 2001 and 2009 continue to pose an injury risk to consumers, so they’re being recalled again. The Electrolux Group is recalling about 203,000 smooth top ranges, which were previously recalled in August 2009. The surface heating elements can turn off, fail to turn off, or heat to different temperatures than selected. Read more →


Supreme Court upholds funding structure for federal consumer financial protection agency

In a victory for American consumers, the Supreme Court ruled the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s funding structure is constitutional. It rejected arguments brought by the payday loan industry. Rather than receiving money annually from Congress, the CFPB is funded through the Federal Reserve which is funded through bank assessments. Read more →

Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer. A big safety issue for parents is the use of off-highway vehicles or OHVs by kids. During 2023, the CFA documented 498 OHV fatalities.
