As inflation weary voters head to the polls Tuesday, oil companies are chortling all the way to the bank

It’s one of the biggest frauds unleashed on the American public: high gas prices despite falling oil prices. As consumers prepare to vote, it’s often the high gas prices that are on their minds. Recently, I wrote about price gouging: about one-third to half of the current inflation in the U.S. is being caused by corporations making excessive profits. Read more →

Be sure and vote in the midterm elections Nov. 8

On Thursday, I put my ballot in a nearby drop box. Fortunately, there weren’t any Right-wing election deniers with guns standing nearby as has been reported in some areas of the country. It’s really important for people to vote in the upcoming election. Right-wing fanatics are on the ballot in every state. Read more →

Not registered to vote in the mid-terms? It’s not too late in most states, but Oct. 11 is the cutoff in a dozen states

I can’t urge people strongly enough to vote Nov. 8. You can still register to vote in most states. However, registration closes Oct. 11 in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. In the past, I’ve encouraged citizens on Presidents’ Day to take the opportunity to participate in government and make their voices heard. The goal? To help make government work more effectively. That message is even more critically important now. Read more →

Best wishes on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Martin Luther King Jr. was such a transformational leader. Over the years, I’ve written more than a dozen articles for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. They included his most famous quotes, how a day to celebrate King was finally approved, and how it’s a day of service, not a day off. Read more →

Progress made in public health, climate, and consumer protection during 2021, consumer group says

Since I wrote an article recently on the top consumer and personal finance stories of 2021, I was interested in a list offered by U.S. PIRG on the progress made in health, climate, and consumer issues in 2021. U.S. PIRG, a public interest research group, and its state partners worked on or supported many of these issues. Read more →
